Wake

“ I sat up late last night, thinking about the man within me. A man who has lived for thousands of years. He adopted me when I was given birth by a mother he adopted before me. He inherited me as I inherited him and lived in me as I in him... Since the end of the sixteenth century he has become subjugated marginalized and may even have been obliterated by strangers he accepted as visitors to his home. For years he remained dormant, dying in silence and in indifference on my part. I whom he nourished and fed for years with the word of his wisdom and the experience of living......” Solomon Islander

But I ask the man now will you please re-awake, the way they have us living here is not our fate. My brothers and sisters are dying wide awake. Born with two eyes but stuck on faith. Because without you we fall prey. Believing in the lies because they are all in our face. Even when we sleep it is all we hear cuz in this time we are stuck dreaming without you near.

All of what we hold, is now in peril.

I lose family like the rich dawn apparel.

American Eagle, Aeropostle

branded as though they were cattle.

Yet we stick onside thinking

all those things, maybe they could be mine

a cold new remedy will help me forget old times.

Nah the underlying lesson is too strong.

too much pain for far too long.

Subjugated, obliterated, each day I am taught that I am hated.

but I found,

If I stay close, I stay renewed by you...

This pride in my heart is divine, never to take.

I may forget my language but Faka’ Tonga is what I now state.

Knowing Matelau proud is underneath

and resistance to our loss is what I feel.

Resistance to the way they play us in the space we now fill.

Use my hands, Use my verbs, because when I’m used by you. I am used most true.

Branded by imperial hands

Divided so we fit into their plans yet each time you showed unity is the way

One heart, One soul, there is only one way

Kau’Moana is how I rise, just like the tide

A hundred times.

I learn you come by all kinds of names, but once you show, you show the same way.

Nga Tama Toa, Polynesian Panthers, Mau Movement it has been said before. Fighting ignorance everywhere you go. Doesn’t matter the island, or the place, but the reason SURVIVAL, each time, each place. Thats why there is a revival seen in their face Epeli Hau’ofa, Haunani Kay-Trask, Queen Salote, and Anghet all breathed you thru. Liberate our people is what we need to do. So, Once again I’m asking you wake.

Hafa adai - Hello

my name is Kie Susuico, from Guahan (Guam). I created the Epeli Hau'ofa Decolonize The Mind piece you have in your post. Your words definitely match the intent i created the piece with...except my stuggles are on Guahan. You mentioned an Anghet in your post, is that Angel Santos from Guahan?

Saina Ma'ase - Blessings & Thanks
